Stirrett Johnsen, Inc. is a highly successful mechanical contractor founded in 1972 by Lee Stirrett and Brian Johnsen. The company began in the plan spec market competing statewide for Washington State K-12 education facilities, military, and industrial work at the local shipyard in Bremerton. Based in Silverdale, Washington, the firm quickly developed a reputation as an effective and quality-driven provider which soon led the founders to look at expanded markets and services.

In 1983, the company entered the design build market adding in-house mechanical engineering, design and coordination capabilities. One of the first landmark projects in the design build market was Bellevue Place in 1988. This 1,400,000 square-foot project was successfully designed and managed by SJI Mechanical Engineers Greg Swanson, P.E. and Rich Arper, P.E. with field supervision by Elgin Springgay, Larry Adams, Bruce Pearson, and Steve Sullivan.

In 2000, Steve Stirrett, Steve Sullivan, and Sean Sullivan executed a successful transition of corporate ownership. Since then, they have led an experienced staff with a combination of hard work, integrity, and passion for the trade. We compete vigorously in plan spec, design build, and design assist delivery methods across demanding markets such as healthcare, industrial, laboratory, military, and special projects.

In 2006, Greg Dehnert joined Stirrett Johnsen and currently leads a streamlined Special Projects Division based in Renton, Washington. This flexible, high performance group is dedicated to serving General Contractors and Owners with demanding project needs. These demands may include a crucial outage or working in occupied spaces with absolutely no room for error. Greg’s respected 30-year history of solid planning and budgeting, technical expertise and dedication is a perfect fit and complement to the needs of this customer group and our culture of dedication at Stirrett Johnsen.

In addition, we serve healthcare and industrial markets in Eastern Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. Stirrett Johnsen maintains a full time Local 598 staff in Eastern Washington and has done so for over 20 years. Reputation is everything in this market with repeat customers accounting for over 90% of our Eastern Washington business.
